The Blue Lady Room is named after the “Blue Lady,” a ghost seen by several of our guests, and is located above the historic General Store. This room has windows facing West, South, and North. Story’s herb garden, patio, and even Brown County State Park can be seen from the private deck. The Blue Lady Room has a queen bed, outdoor patio, and bathroom with shower.
The Morrison Kelley Room is our largest room above the historic General Store in the center of town. This room faces East and South, with several windows overlooking Story’s “Main Street.” The Morrison Kelley Room has a queen bed, sofa, card table, and bathroom with a shower.
The Hedrick Room is located above the historic General Store in the center of town. This room has windows facing South and West with views of the herb garden and barn. The Hedrick room has a queen bed, full bath, shower, and tub.
The Lieber Room is located above the historic General Store & Tavern. This room is named after Colonial Richard H. Lieber, founder of the Brown County State Park. The Eastern window overlooks Story’s “Main Street” and the private covered balcony faces the State Park. The Lieber Room has a queen bed, bath with shower, and a private sitting room. This room is located above the tavern where joyful conversations may be heard late.
This renovated one-room school house is named after the original owner of the general store, Alra Wheeler. This historic room includes a queen bed, mini-fridge, coffee-maker, a bathroom with a standing shower, and a sitting room. The Wheeler front covered porch faces the inn where iconic photos can be taken. Like many units at Story, the Wheeler front is pet-friendly!
The Wheeler Back Cottage is the back division of the Wheeler Cottage, across from the General Store. This larger cottage has two private bedrooms with queen beds, a full bath with clawfoot tub, separate shower, living room, and pri- vate deck with tables and chairs. Kitchen amenities include refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, and dining table.
The Wilkerson Front Cottage is a division of the pleasant Wilkerson Cottage. This cottage has a private bedroom with a king bed, an ADA approved bathroom with tub/shower, living room, and vaulted ceiling, as well as a kitchenette with an oven, refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker. This room is connected to the Wilkerson Back through security doors to accommodate larger families and groups. The covered porch has views of Jackie’s garden, covered bridge, and nearby fire pit.
The Wilkerson Back Cottage is a quiet and roomy division of the Wilkerson Cottage. This cottage has a private bedroom with queen bed, living room, a full bath with jetted tub/shower, mini-fridge, microwave, and coffee-maker. This room is connected to the Wilkerson Front with security doors to accommodate larger families and groups. The covered porch has views of Jackie’s garden, covered bridge, and nearby fire pit.
The Schultz Homestead Front is a division of the amiable Schultz Homestead across the parking lot from the General Store. This cottage has a refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, dining table, living room with a sleeper sofa, queen bedroom, garden tub/shower, and covered porch with a swing. The Schultz Homestead Front is pet-friendly, ADA accessible, and great for large families.
The Schultz Homestead Back is a division of the quaint and charming Schultz Homestead Cottage. This cottage has an antique four-post queen bed, private bath with jetted tub/shower, sofa, mini-fridge, coffee maker, and a porch swing with views of the horse pasture. The Schultz Homestead Back is pet friendly.
The Old Mill Loft is part of Story’s historic 19th century grain mill. It has been renovated into a lovely, spacious cottage with a king bed, bathroom with shower, living room, greenhouse atrium with sitting area, a mini-fridge, coffee-maker, along with a 300-gallon horse trough bathtub. This room is located beside the tavern where joyful conversations may be heard late.
The Treaty House is a delightful and spacious private cottage, once the town sawmill. This cottage has a vaulted ceiling, heated tile floors, queen bed, full bath shower/tub, living room, coffee-maker, mini-fridge. The cabin also has a private deck with a hammock, tables, chairs, and hot tub.
The Carriage House is a two-bedroom cottage on the edge of the property. This cottage includes two private king size bedrooms connected by a sitting room. Other amenities include a bathroom with standing shower, coffee-maker, mini-fridge, covered porch, and outdoor privacy fence. Story is in the process of replacing the hot tub which will sit within the privacy fence.
The Doc Story House is town's historic Victorian-style home originally the private residence of Dr. George Story. It has three bedrooms, one with a king bed and two antique full beds, a bathroom with a porcelain clawfoot tub, and one upstairs with a stand up shower. The breakfast nook has a fridge, microwave, and coffee maker with additional living space upstairs. The two covered porches, wrap around deck, hot tub and patio provide views of town, orchard, pasture, and Hoosier National Forest.
After a fire consumed the original homestead, Leonard and Ida Hedrick constructed the home in 1920 adjacent to the old general store. Current preservation efforts include a library, living room, dining room with kitchen, and attached sunroom with bunkbed. Original hardwood floors expand through both floors and include king size and full size bedrooms upstairs with a full bath. The covered front porch looks across the main street and the back patio includes outside seating.
Please note: Our accommodations do NOT include internet, televisions, alarm clocks, or phones as we are a distraction-free destination. However, we do offer our guests a limited WIFI connection while in our dining room and tavern. Please keep in mind that we are about 20 minutes away from the town of Nashville and your cell phone service may not be that great. You are welcome to use our phones at the Front Desk!
Arrival and Departure
Our check-in time is 4 p.m. On the day of your departure, we kindly request that you vacate your room no later than 11 a.m. If you would like to linger, we will store your luggage. Please notify us if you plan to arrive later than 7 pm, so we can be sure to accommodate you.
Payment Policy
Full payment is required at the time the reservation is made.
Rates will vary depending on the seasonal rate plan: non-peak, peak, premium.
Non-Peak: December 1st-March 30th, excludes Fridays, Saturdays, and Holidays
Peak: April 1st-November 30th, Fridays and Saturdays year-round
Premium: Fridays and Saturdays through peak season, and all weekend days surrounding New Year's Eve, Valentines Day, and Thanksgiving
Cancelation & Refund Policy
Full refunds (minus any surcharge fees) will be given if a cancelation is made more than 30 days prior to your reservation.
Cancellations made within 30 days will be given a gift certificate of equal value. For guests who cancel within 24 hours of their stay, a $50 + surcharge payment fee will be taken out of the reaming refund amount (this rule applies to credit cards, check, cash, debit cards, gift certificates, and vouchers).
Gift Certificates / Discount Codes / Room Specials
Do NOT book a room through the online system when using a gift certificate, discount code, OR to use a room special. You must contact the Story Inn representative team in order for them to apply this to the balance of the room. (ph) 812-988-2273 (e) reservations@storyinn.com.
Pet Policy
We are very much pet friendly, and allow animals in designated rooms for $10 per animal, per night. Horse stalls are also available for $20 per night.
Damage Policy
We reserve the right to charge guests the cost of rectifying damage, caused by the deliberate, negligent, or reckless act of the guest to the hotel’s property or structure. Should this damage come to light after the guest has departed, we reserve the right to make a charge to the guest’s credit/debit card or send an invoice for the amount to the registered address. We will however make every effort to rectify any damage internally prior to contracting specialists to make the repairs, and therefore will make every effort to keep any costs that the guest would incur to a minimum.
Removal of Story Inn Property
We reserve the right to charge guests the cost of replacing any items that are removed from the premises by them without consent. The charge will be the full replacement amount of the missing item, including any carriage charges. Should the fact that the item is missing come to light after the guest has departed, we reserve the right to make a charge to the guest's credit/debit card, or send an invoice for the amount to the registered address.
Smoking
The Story Inn is a non-smoking property. A $600 fee will be charged for smoking in guest rooms.
