Story Inn to offer “Superbowl Sanctuary”
Super Tuscans on Super Sunday
Indianapolis is being overrun with sports revelers engaged in a perplexing, albeit time-honored, tradition that involves the intemperate consumption of watery domestic beer while bearing witness to ritualized combat between faux “tribes” of steroid-enhanced mesomorphs. That, at least, is the prediction of Rick Hofstetter, the owner of the Story Inn. “This annual contrivance is packaged, marketed and promoted by much smarter people who wish to separate us all from our money.” He says, cynically.
The Story Inn is Indiana’s oldest bed & breakfast, located 13 miles south of Nashville, and a 75 minute drive, under ordinary traffic conditions, from Lucas Oil Stadium. On the last Saturday of each April, the Story Inn hosts the Indiana Wine Fair, an event that attracts a throng of oenophiles, but no sports fanatics. And on April 1 of each year, the town elders a/k/a tavern regulars convene to elect a new “Village Idiot”.
This year, the Story Inn will be offering a sensible sanctuary from “Superbowl Madness”. On that weekend, any references to “tight end”, “backfield in motion” or “drive up the middle” will likely be interpreted in provocative ways. Customers may arrive by motorcar or on horseback, but currently the town does not offer a zip line.
“There will be no talk of this spectacle. No ‘tailgating’ in the parking lot. No gladiators to watch on the town’s only television. Instead, we’ll be offering Super Tuscans at half price, and Chamber Music at dinner. Bring your MENSA card, and get an appetizer for free”, promises Hofstetter, himself a former “Village Idiot”.
The Story Inn will be offering “Superbowl Sanctuary” from Friday, February 3, through Sunday, February 5. Overnight accommodations are still available at www.storyinn.com.
