Old Mill Loft

The Old Mill Loft is our most spacious cottage. We spent the entire winter of 2005-6 renovating this historic old grain mill into a dining hall downstairs, and a tourist cottage above. Both facilities can be combined for larger parties. Guests must enter the Old Mill itself (replete with its Depression-era grain milling equipment) and walk up a wooden staircase into the most unique overnight accommodation in Brown County. In the loft, you will find a cheery bright atrium/greenhouse, a living room, a bedroom with a king-sized bed, and a 250 gallon horse trough which serves as a bathtub. All finishes are locally-sourced and compatible with the structure: We cannibalized galvanized steel from a damaged old local building, and paneled the walls and floors of the Loft with lumber we harvested, milled and dried onsite. Vera (our Ueber-gardener whose efforts are much in evidence here at Story during temperate months) starts most of her plants in the Loft greenhouse. Full bath (with shower for the less venturesome), mini-refrigerator, coffeemaker.

Addenda:
The price above is exclusive of taxes and based upon double occupancy. There is a charge of $15.00 for each additional person, not to exceed the maximum occupancy of the room, as noted. Children ten and under who do not need bedding are free.

Check-in is anytime after 3:00 p.m., and check-out by 11:00 a.m., unless you make other arrangements with us.

We permit dogs in the Old Mill Loft at a charge of $10.00 per pet, per night. Sorry, we cannot permit cats, due to allergies.

If you intend to enjoy breakfast with us, you may purchase a “Bed & Breakfast Package” at $7.50/person, which will enable you to order any food and beverage from the regular breakfast menu (except for alcoholic beverages). You may order the “Bed & Breakfast Package” by calling (800) 881-1183, or requesting it at the time you check in.
