Accommodations

The Story Inn currently offers eighteen tastefully decorated rooms and cottages. Each room has a unique history with unique amenities, so we gave them names rather than numbers. All rooms are non-smoking, and have a full private bathroom and air conditioning. To preserve the unique quality of this historic setting, none of our rooms have televisions, telephones, clocks or radios.

You may order the "Bed & Breakfast Package" at the time you book your room, which will allow you to enjoy a full breakfast from our menu for only $9/person, plus tax and gratuity.

ROOM RATES will differ, depending upon whether they are "Premium", "Peak" or "Non-Peak" times, as defined below.

"Premium" rates apply to the following dates: Every Friday and Saturday in October; Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends; Thanksgiving Day and the weekend following Thanksgiving; New Year's Eve; the Friday and Saturday preceding Valentine's Day; and the weekends of the Indiana Wine Fair and the Hoosier Hops & Harvest.

"Peak" rates apply to all rooms mid-April through the end of November, as well as all Saturdays in December through mid-April, unless the "Premium" rates otherwise apply.

"Non-Peak" rates apply December through April 16, 2015, excluding Saturdays and days in which the "Premium" rates otherwise apply.  Before Labor Day, 2015, Non-Peak rates will apply Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings as well.

Check in is 3:00 p.m., and check out is at 11:00 a.m., unless you make special arrangements with us.  PLEASE NOTE: If you plan to arrive after 9:00 p.m., please call us.  We cannot guarantee that a live human being will check you in late at night.

DOG LOVERS: We welcome your canine companions in the following ten rooms: Wheeler Front, Doc Story, Schultz Back, Wilkerson Front and Back, as well as in the four Garrison rooms, for an additional fee of $10/dog/night.  IMPORTANT NOTICE:  We have free-ranging chickens here at the Story Inn, and will hold you responsible if your dog harms them.  Please keep your dog leashed if it poses a threat to our chickens.

HORSE LOVERS: We can also offer a 12' x 12' stall for your equine companion while you stay with us, at an additional cost of $20/horse/night.  You will need to fax us the Coggins immunization records, and make arrangements to rent a stall at the time you book your room. Our fax number is (812) 988-6516. Sorry, but we cannot offer pasture turn-out or feed.

PLEASE NOTE:  If you wish to book online you must have a valid credit or debit card.  We do not accept American Express.  Sorry, but we cannot hold a room for you to pay cash on arrival.  If you ignore our prohibition against smoking in the rooms, we will charge your credit card for a cleaning fee, as well as for damage resulting from burns to carpets, linens and upholstery.  NOTE: we do not sell tobacco products.

GENERAL CANCELLATION POLICY.  We will run your credit card for your room reservation up to 21 days in advance.  If you cancel your room reservation after we have run your card, we will refund that with a gift certificate of equal value, which you may spend as cash at the Story Inn for up to one year following your room cancellation.

If you intend to pay with a gift certificate, you must inform us of the gift certificate number and amount at the time you book your room.  If you fail to notify us that you have a gift certificate at the time you make your reservation, you may not apply that credit to your room.  (However, the gift certificate may still be used for food, merchandise and beverages, unless the gift certificate states otherwise.)

SPECIAL RULE FOR INDIANA WINE FAIR.  We generally have 100 or more people on a waiting list for the Indiana Wine Fair, and many of them book years in advance of this event.  There is a two night minimum.  We will contact you by telephone or e-mail between 60 and 75 days prior to the Indiana Wine Fair, to verify if you still desire your room.  If you confirm your reservation with us, we will run your card at the time of your confirmation.

The forces of entropy are strong here.  Occasionally, we'll encounter a plumbing or electrical problem that will require us to move you to a different room.  If possible, we'll upgrade you, at no additional cost.  If you decline to take an alternate room that we have offered to you, our general cancellation policy will apply, and our liability will be limited to refunding you with a gift certificate.
